adj., adv., & n. --adj. 1 produced or occurring once every quarter of a year. 2 (of a shield) quartered. --adv. 1 once every quarter of a year. 2 in the four, or in two diagonally opposite, quarters of a shield. --n. (pl. -ies) a quarterly review or magazine. QUARTERMASTER n. 1 a regimental officer in charge of quartering, rations, etc. 2 a naval petty officer in charge of steering, signals, etc. Phrases and idioms Quartermaster General the head of the army department in charge of quartering etc. quartermaster sergeant a sergeant assisting an army quartermaster.
